A six-roomed house in Waipukurau, owned by Mrs. J. Davies and occupied by B. NickalTs, was totally destroyed by fire at 9.30 a.m. to-day. Practically no furniture or personal effects were saved. The house was situated outside the borough boundary, and as 'no high pressure water was available the brigade was helpless. The insurances are not available at present. Before the Magistrate's Court at Christebureh to-day Henry Patrick Mooro, 38, pleaded guilty to eight charges of breaking and entering various houses early this month, and committing theft. The police said tho accused travelled round at a tinker. To gain entrance he broke the loadlights over doors or Windows, and then undid the catch. In all ho had taken £IOO worth of gqods and jewellery from eight houses. He was caught in the act at a Sydenham house. He was committed for sentence, no bail being applied for.
