MB. COLEMAN'S STATEMENT The Dominion of Tuesday makes the following correction: ' 'ln reporting the speech of the Mayor of Gisborne, Mr. D. W. Coleman, at the Labor meeting on Sunday evening, a sentence was made rather ambiguous. Mr. Coleman was making a historical reference to past struggles, and what he 'said was: 'We are, endeavoring to work along evolutionary lines. The Labor movement lias had to fight for its very existence against Kings and nobles, "against the Church. All along its aim has, been the emancipation of the great mass of, the people.' The omission of the word' 'had' made it appear that the fight referred to was in the present, not in the past." Interviewed on his return to Gisborne this morning, Mr. Coleman stated that in his speech which was so briefly arid erroneously reported he was making an historical allusion to the growth of tho Labor movement from the time of tho Magna Charta and Corn Laws. This did not appear in the report published, which through the omission of a word made it appear quite erroneously that his remarks had allusion to the "present, day! It is only fair to Mr. Coleman that this explanation should bo given, and we would express regret that the paragraph from the Wellington paper was published in our columns,
