WIDENED TO INCLUDE POPULATION OF 9,500,000 NEW YORK, Dec. 3. The creation of a new metropolitan district of New' York, including all the territory and population within a radius of approximately 40 miles of City Hall, as compared with the old 10-rnilc radius, has been announced by the Merchants’ Association of New York. The new metropolitan district has roughly a population of 9,500,000 persons. The methods used to redefine the district have been approved by the United States Census Bureau as they were laid down at a conference of commercial, trade and other organisations held recently in Washington at the call of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States, according to the announcement.
