FOURFOLD INCREASE IN BRITISH TAXES
LONDON, Dec. 10. In reply to a question in the Hoppe of Commons by Mr. A. M. Samuel, Conservative, Farnham, the financial secretary to the Treasury stated that tho per capita taxation of Britain had increased from £3 11s 4d in 1914 to £l4 11s 8d in 1927. The jier capita taxation at the present rate of exchange in 1914 and 1927 for other nations rvns as follows: Franco, £3 7s Cxi and £7 I.ls Sd; Germany, £1 11s and £5 13s; Italy, £2 2s and £4 (is 8d; United Stales, £1 Ss 4d and £0 :7s. It Avas pointed out that Britain’s debt includes external debt payable to the United States amounting to 4,002,727,800 dollars, converted into sterling at par of exchange. Britain’s total debt is £7,022,900,000, making the per capita debt £.168 ss.
