F. 1 laughton presided at the piano. On Tuesday night Air. Copeland conducted the ter vice, and Mr. Kingston again sang several sacred songs. On Monday night a motor truck loaded with benzine took lire near Waihua hill, the vehicle and its freight being destroyed.

Mrs. Lassen, of Bunnythorpe, mother of Airs. AV. Tait, of Morere. uho has been on a visit to her daughter and son in-law, returned home on Wednesday. - Air. E. J. AV. Hallett, of Hastings, and Mr. P. H. Kinsman, of Napier, visited Wairoa yesterday.—Miss M. Butterfield, of AVaipawa, has been appointed to the nursing staff of the Wairoa- County Hospital.—Air. H. L. I-Jarker has been appointed secretary of the Wairoa A. and I*. Society.

The funeral of the lab- Air. il. \Y. Baker took' place yesterday afternoon, the Rev. J. J. Anderson being the officiating minister. There was a good assemblage of town and country settlers. The mortal remains of the late Mr. William Goldstone were laid to rest in the Wairoa Cemetery yesterday afternoon, the Rev. AV. 11. Milne conducing the service in the presence of a large number of settlers. Prior to the interment Air. Alilno conducted a short service at the church.
