ALLEGED FILM MONOPOLY CORPORATION CHARGED (Australian and N.Z Cable Association.! WASHINGTON, July 0. The Federal Trade Commission has issued an order citing the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation for a conspiracy "to monopolise or attempt to monopolise the motion picture industrv," particularly in inter-State and foreign commerce on the production, distribution and exhibition of cinema films, by compelling exhibitors to take all or nftne of a group of films without regard to the character of the picturec or the, wishes of the picture house, and by acquiring, or threatening to acquire, theatres for the purpose of intimidating or coercing the exhibitor' to book and exhibit the firm's pictures. Sixty days are allowed in order to enable the company to discontinue its alleged practices. ' This decision is considered to be the most important, affecting the cinema industry since its inception.
