The Waimate Farmers’ Union have forwarded a letter to the Minister of Agriculture urging tJuat potatoes imported into New Zealand from Australia he subjected to the same inspection as New Zealand potatoes sent to Australia, The letter stated that it seemed most, unfair that Australia, should 1 exclude New Zealand potatoes and then export, to the Dominion, where potato growers are facing adverse conditions, and urged that New Zealand growers .should he protected as for as possible. Herbert Mitchell Fisher, JO, a married man, arrested at Taihape last night, on a charge of presenting a revolver at C. O. Gibbs, R, C. McDonald, and Leo H. pollinson, appeared in court this morning. Detective Walsh applied for a remand until) to-morrow, and asked that Fisher be kept in custody as further charges were pending. Fisher i s a wellknown business man in Taihape, and has been managing Coliinson’s and Gifford's drapery business for some years.

At Auckland to-day Harry Hurst O’Coilnor, 18, was eommit-tted .for sentence to the Supreme Court l>v Mr. B W. MeKean, S.AL, on 14 Charges of the theft of goods valued at £OB 0s (id, £34 10s 7d in money, and u hank pass hook showing a credit of £4SO. All the thefts were commit;tecl at- private hotels and boardinghouses. Accused admitted all the charges, and much of the stolen property has been recovered.
