SECOND EDITION. A. AND P. ASSOCIATION

THE ANNUAL MEETING

There was an attendance of about i!0 members at the animal meeting of the Poverty Bay A. and I'. Association to-day, the president, Mr. R. AV. ('nop, being in the chair. PRESIDENT'S REVIEW In reviewing the operations of the past year, the president said: "I wish to put on record my thanks and appreciation to Mr. Bayly, our eeere-tary, and to Hie committee for the splendid support they have given Mr. Eivers (vice-president > and myself in bringing the 1920-27 annual show through so successfully. To live slock and other exhibitors, to trade exhibitors, donors of special prizes and e.nps, to the press and the general public, I also extend my thanks and appreciation for the general support, and trust they will still continue to Support the show, which, to my mind, is the premier fixture in the district.

"The 3926-27 show was somewhat similar to past animal shows, horse events being predominant. The stud sheep classes were very well supported, many old established stud masters exhibiting, and slock coming from as far south as Nuhakn. The fat sheep and land) classes were of splendid quality and I think our Southdown-Komney-cross lamb is equal to prime Canterbury. The cattle classes were well supported and more encouragement should be given to these classes, especially to the dairy section. Other classes were also well supported. In future more protection must be given to the dogs and poultry against tin 1 extreme heat. The trade exhibits were outstanding features, and a credit to the business people of the town.

"The depression will undoubtedly have an effect on the running of our next sltow, hut if the committee will put. increased energy into the affairs of our association, .there is nothing to fear. We want better, organisation, and to attain that I intend to have our chief stewards elected at. our next meeting, and, further, I will expect every steward to take up his respective class in earnest to bring about a great increase in entries." There was a round of applause when tne president concluded his address.

The report fund balance sheet (already published) were adopted with hi tie comment. It was decided that in connection with future elections "for the committee, the sitting members to be denoted on the ballot papers by an asterisk. Mr. .1. Graham urged that the association should institute a campaign to .secure more members. The president urged the members to make individual efforts in this direction.

Remarks were made of Mr. Coop's success as president, it being stated that his ejection for a third term was eloquent testimony of his ability. POOR PIG ENTRIES.

Mr. P. Collin said in the pig classes such poor support was given that a total of about £42 was awarded for competition among only two competitors, ancl so far as he could seo the result would be tlie same this year. The entrance fees for .these classes totalled only £7, so that there was a dead loss of £35. Better accommodation was required for the pigs, and rather than spend money for which there was little benefit, it would be better to eliminate the pig classes from the schedule.

Mr. Collin added that there appeared to be no signs of improvement in the near future, and the pig classes should be abandoned until there were more breeders in the district.

The suggestion was greeted with mixed feelings. Members concurred that if there was no prospect of better support it would be wise to delete these classes from the schedule until more support was warranted, but it was regretted that as the pig industry was one which required fostering, it would be a pity to discourage it in .this district. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

The election of the committee rq» suited : Messrs. P. F. Barker, C. R. Burland, A. M. desßarres, P. Collin. S. E. Gillingbam, J. T. Herbert, 11. K. Murphy, W. W. Shanks, C. Tietjen and S. K. White. Mr. 11. E .Dodd was elected auditor and Mr. Hough honorary veterinary surgeon.

Mr. Coop and Mr. J. A. Fivers had been elected president and vice-president respectively unopposed. .Mr. (!. Nicbolls urged the association to advertise their shows more in order to secure greater support.
