HUGE LOSSES
QUEENSLAND SHIPPING OVER 5.000,000 SHEEP BRISBANE, June 10, The rains which fall in the interior of Queensland last week will, unfortunately, give only a temporary measure of relief. It is difficult to accurately estimate lhe losses to the pastoral industry of Queensland, owing to the drought, but a study of the wool figures fpr the season 1926-27, shows that there will be a shortage* of approximately 100,000 bales.
At .£-■"> a bale the loss to the State from this source alone -will amount to £2,500,000. A considerable sum has also been lost: to growers on account. of clips weighing much lighter lhaii they would in normal seasons. Losses of stock are estimated at from 5,000,• (Km to 0,000,000 sheep. Many pastoralists have lost every sheep they possessed, and are faced with the problem of working unstocked properties. Even with the passing of the drought, many will find it difficult .to finance restocking, and will be forced to realise on their properties.
