THE WAY IN THE ARMY
COMMUNIST AT SHANGHAI. SHANGHAI, June 5. Shanghai is laughing this week-end at a story indicating the intense loyalty of the British soldiers, as well as the ardent, work of Bolshevik propagandists who spread discontent among the troops. The latest attempt of the kind consists of a leaflet, .tllege.dly issued by "The Shanghai Defence Force and Revolutionary Soldiers' Committee.'' The nature of the publication is sufficiently indicated by the rise of the words " His Majesty," referring to the King. One English-speaking Chinese youth endeavored to distribute the document among the British soldiers, who, glancing at the contents, seized the distributor. They were first, inclined to box his ears, but, discovering that he spoke English, stood the young gentleman on his head and forced him to sing ''God Save the King." After being soundly smacked be was liberated among a jeering crowd of Chinese onlookers.
