£30,000 AWAITS OWNER AN AUCKLAND CLAIMANT (Special to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. The sum of £30,000 is in safe cus- ; tody in New York waiting to be' claimed by the heirs of Mary Bridget Madden, "who are thought to be in New Zealand. N i Mr. John J. Dwyer, a prominent' New York lawyer, has been vainly searching throughout the world'for many years for this Mary Bridget. Madden, who was horn in County Galway, Ireland, in 1820, or there-: abouts* A daughter of William' Madden; she earae to New Zealand | about 1887 and settled as far as is* known ■in Canterbury. She is said! to have a number of relatives, probably cousins, in some part of New Zealand. "We would like to get into communication with any member of this : family," says Mr. Dwyer, in a letter', received in New Zealand, "or with: any who knew Mary Bridget Madden.; In• this way we hope to trace the; heirs to an estate worth more than £30.000. The publication of this information has raised high' hopes in the 1 mind of at least one Auckland resident, Mrs. Mary Heinitz, of West street, Newton. Mrs. Heinitz, who is a widow, aged 0.1, and has no family, has in her possession photographs taken many years ago of her grandfather and grandmother, Mary md William Madden. She states that her grandmother was born in l County Calway, and is probably the Mary' Madden sought by the New York legal firm, or at. least a near' relative. Although Mrs. Madden's family included live sons and two daughters, Mrs. Heinitz does not believe there are mdny living descendants.
