PRIVILEGES ABUSED
DRINKING AT SANATORIUM (Special to the Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH. this day; ; Men' who-indulge in alcoholic drinking at the sanatorium and upset the' smooth working of the institution are discharged from it. Thus they return to the general community without completing their treatment. The position was referred to at yesterday's meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board, when the public health committee reported that during May two , patients had had to be discharged from the- sanatorium for indulging in alcoholic drinking in the institution. "What is the position of these men going to be?" asked the Rev. C. Carr. "I came cross a man the other day whu was discharged for drinking. He was knocking about the town, a menace to the community,. and in the end I think he was sent to Otaki. We cannot have these undesirables knocking about in the community, it is a.very serious thing." The chairman of the board agreed that it was a very serious thing. It was impossible to accept all patients. The board wns trying to do the best thing. The question was whether the hospital was going to, carry out the;duty-given it, or whether these men were to be allowed to upset the. institution.
