DEATHS FROM CANCER

STEADY INCREASE SHOWN (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Department of Health's statement shows a steady increase in deaths from cancer during" the past 12 years. Jn 1915 the number was 900 out of a total of 9665, and in 1926 the numbers increased,, to 2541 and 11,019 respectively. This relative increase, it is pointed out, is in part due to the advance made in dealing with and preventing infantile mortality and tuberculosis by various safeguards, which leave people reaching middle life subject mainly to heart troubles, arterial degeneration, and cancer.
