AUCKLAND AGITATION
The honorary secretary, of the Amateur Radio Society of Wellington, Mr. R. L. has just returned from a visit to the Auckland Listeners' League. ' He states that ho found, that the Auckland' listeners had taken; a definite and firm stand against the feadio Broadcasting Co. : The bone of contention there was that tho programmes from IYA'Mere not satisfactory to the vast majority of tho listeners in tlie Auckland district;.' and •the listeners had lost confidence entirely in the company. They therefore intended to press for Stato control immediately, on the lines'of the English system. The Auckland Listeners' League viewed .with, disfavor tho state of the share capital of ' the company, and considered that practically "only two men had control of the Broadcasting Co. '£ affairs. The Auckland League requested Mr. Jones to ask the Wellington Amateur Radio iSocicty to fall into line with their course of action and a meeting o| tho Wellington executive is being called, when the whole of the representations from the Auckland League will be fully discussed. Lt is interesting to- note, states Mr. Jones, that' although the Auckland Listeners' League has only been recently formed, the membership is increasing aJUlie rate of probably a hundred a clayjv' The president . of ■ the Auckland League, said Mr. .Tones, felt concerned to think that* the company had not availed itself of various offers of programmes;, such as the Orphans' Club and Choral Society,' it bp.ing; statdd, that the Broadcasting Co. had refused pay the Orphans' Club oven a £5 5s
donation and also refused to ofter more than £2O for four concerts given by the Auckland Choral Society (£5 each concert), notwithstanding that it costs the ChoTul Society £2OO to present each concert.
