SALE OF LAND
, FARMERS ALLEGE MISREPRESENTATION. (Per Press Association.) HAMILTON", last night. Induced by alleged misrepresentations that the land was of excellent quality, highly suitable for dairying, a. large number of Tttranaki farmers a few years ago took up areas of land in what is known as the Matarawa. block at Toko roa, near Rolot'ua. A number of these settlers, alleging that the land is outtle sick and was misrepresented to them, have instituted an action against tho vendors, the Matarawa Lund Co., for the aggregate sum of £17,936 damages. The cases for hearing at the present session against the 1 Matarawa Land Co. are the claims of H. and A. H. Cairns, £5347; George D. Pinny, £4174; Frederick F. Rogers, £100; Michael McDonnell, £5442; Arthur >S. Allen, £1196; and Alfred W. Townsent, £6149. The cases are now proceeding before Mr. Justice Herdman and a special jury. The case of George Donald Pinny is expected to last five Jays.
