(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. At the annual meeting of the Public Service Association the Hon. R. A. Wright said the Government had approved of the payment of the monetary equivalent of leave to widows and near relations of officers dying while in the service. This meant that if an officer died while a member of the service his widow or dependant children would be paid an amount equivalent to that which would have been payable to the officer in terms qf tho regulations in the event of his retirement, 'the Government had approved the recommendation of the I'uhlie Service ('onimissioner that provision should he made for the training of administrative officers by giving a selected number tho opportunity of taking up university eourses on lines similar to the training at present afforded professional or technical officers. A committee has been appointed for the purpose of reviewing the relations of the various superannuation funds, correcting anomalies and inconsistencies.

Mr. D. MacLonnan, of Gisborne, teacher of dancing, has received an interesting letter from Mrs. Smythe, of Wellington, wlu>s«j daughter Gladys studied with him last yenr. Mrs. Smythe advises tliat her daughetr was successful in winning the championship for competitors under 18, for which she received a gold medal, and has won trophies to the value of £3O at three competitions. She also gained the highest aggregate for Highland dancing, and was again successful at Pahnerston North on Easter Saturday, winning the five events for which she entered. She also won live firsts and a- second at Dannevirke tlie following Saturday. In the operatic and classic sections she gained first place, and at Hameroa won two firsts and a second out of.three events. Mr. MacLennan's former pupil is now 14 years of age, and her performances are considered to be particularly meritorious.

The suggestion that hotels and ships should be posted with the rates of tipping was made to a Wanganui reporter by Lieut. Basil H. Alexander. Lieut.
