NEW HOUSING SCHEME
FOR RAILWAY EMPLOYEES (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Negotiations have been finalised by the Railway Department for the purchase of about. 20 acres of land seven minutes' walk from Ngaio railway station, for the purpose of establishing a settlement for rajfway workers. An immediate start is to be made upon its development on town-planning lines, providing about 100 sections approximately one-sixth of an acre each. About 80 houses are to be built by the department for letting to railway employees on a basis of one day's pay weekly. It is "understood that the purchase price of the property is about £IO,C€Q.
