DOG TRIALS
WHANGARA MEET CONCLUDED: STRONG CLASSES The classes at the Whangara Sheep Dog Trial Club's annual meeting, which concluded during the week-end, were unusually strong, and there was every indication that shepherds and drovers appreciated the opportunity of competing at a point so central as Whangara. The meeting was in every way a success, for in addition to big entries, the club had the interest of a large number of spectators, who keenly enjoyed the work of the clogs. The judge, Mr. A. Anderson, of Kanakanaia, commented with pleasure upon the work of tne prize-winners, which, he said, would compare well with that seen at any district meeting. The concluding results were:—
Zig-zag Hunt: E. .Nfill's Lid, 41pts., 1; M. Sullivan's Toss, 39pts., 2; W. Hall's Major, 37pts.; 6; C. Cleary's Frog, 34pts., 4.
.Straight Hunt: C. Cleary's Ben, 41 points, 1; C Cleary's Jock, 40pts., 2; C. Hyland's Boy, 39pts., 3; E. Neili's Rose and W. Hall's Jock, equal, 35pts., 4.
The numerous special prizes offered in connection with the meeting were allotted as follows :
Mr. faunigau's cup, lor champion dog: )>. Brosnahan's Kigger. Mrs. Seymour's cup, for two dogs scoring most points in classes 1 and 2*. U. Cleary's Coe and Ben.
Mr. P. Barker's cup, for the runner up to the Seymour cup winners: J Creenstreet's Toss and Boy.
Stoneham cup, for dogs scoring most points in classes 2 and 6: C. Cleary's frog and lien.
C. Hviands cup, for the competitor under 21 scoring most points in classes 1 and iJ: U. Brosnahan's Bess and Sweet.
Mr. E. Robinson's cup, for competitor under 21 with dog scoring most points m all classes: B. Brosnahan's Nigger. Mr. D. Parker's gold medal, for dog scoring most points m classes 2 and 3: C. Cleary's Ben.
Mi'; Curteius' special for runner-up to champion dog: F. Jones' Rogue. Mr. 1). J, Barry's special, for drover scoring most points m all classes: C L'leary, 230 points. Mr. A. Johnston's .special, for the best huntaway: V. Cleary's Ben, 73pts. Messrs: Pet tie and Co.'s special, for do? scoring most points in class 1: W. Ivingsford's Dick.
Messrs. Adair Bros.' special, 'for the youngest competitor: E. Hyland.
Mr. A. W. J. Mann's special, for the dog scoring fastest time in class 1: G. Jobson's Nell.
