If is stated on good authority that there may be important developments in regard to mining in the Lawrence district (states a correspondent). It is understood that the Dunedin City Council has approached the leading mining companies of Blue Spur and Wetherstones in an endeavor to purchase their Water rights. If the council's efforts bear fruit mining in the district will practically cease, and a serious position will arise, as approximately £6OOO is spent annually in wagers by the various companies.
