FUTURE OF EUROPE
ITALY TO BE PREPARED CRISIS WITHIN TEN YEARS LONDON, June 5. Signor Mussolini's assertion that Italy must .be prepared for a. conflagration in the 1935-40 period, and that she must be able then to muster 5,Q00,CC0 armed men and a commensurately strong air force, is being widely discussed, telegraphs the Rome correspondent of the Weekly Dispatch. Generally, says the correspondent, it is felt that Europe is quite unstable as at present constituted, and with the Balkans armed against themselves, with the Austrian Empire split into mutually suspicious hostile nations, with Germany growing in strength and determination to reconquer some of its richest provinces, with Russia growing bolder, as shown by recent happenings in England and China, the future, in Italy's eyes, seems fraught, with dangers. It. is typical of the Duet- that instead of conforming to the provident fashion of making semi-hypocritical statements about world peace, lie speaks his mind frankly.
Italy, feels that she emerged from the Great' War badly. -She received the Trentino and Trieste, which already were rightfully hers, but England alone met her engagements'by conceding Tivuis-Juba and Jarabub.
Apart from that. Italy got nothing, while her allies divided Germany's rum colonial empire, and she certainly got none of those, raw materials sit urgently needed if Italy is to become a really great nation. The. mistake must not be repeated, rays Mussolini, and if war comes again, Italy must be in a position to eriforcd a solution of her vital problems.
