A WOMAN ASPIRANT

COMMANDER BYRD DELAYED

Tlie latest aspirant for transAtlantic flying honors is Mrs. Luba Phillips, an American of Russian birth, who, during July, will possibly fly alone from Newfoundland to London, or she may be accompanied by a navigator pilot, in which event she will endeavor to make a record nonstop flight from New York to Rome or beyond. She flew Anthony Fokker’s first ’plane, and in 1912 established a woman’s altitude record. She carried Red Cross supplies by aeroplane to the Russian army during the war.

Commander Byrd has postponed his trans-Atlantic flight, which was to have been started to-day, at least urttil Sunday, the weather being unfavorable.

Commander Byrd’s flight will be with his North Pole ’plane. Tie will be accompanied by three others, and will probably hop oft’ on Monday or Tuesday. Possibly if successful he will endeavor a return flight.

CALIFORNIA TO HAWAII

AN AMERICAN PROPOSAL

The Army Department- has approved of plans for a flight from California to Hawaii by Lieutenants Maitland and Hagenberger, air service pilots, in a triple motored Fokker monoplane. The tests will be conduced at San Diego following the flight of the machine there from Dayton, Ohio. Tt is expected the take-off will occur within a month. The flight is designed to subject navigation instruments to a thorough test in practical use.

At a grand banquet in honor of the Marehese de Pinedo, Signor Mussolini sint a message that Italian aviation would strengthen the bands of the nations of the world. Lindbergh, Chamberlain', do Pinedo and others would open new horizons of civilisation.
