WHEAT SHIP RACE ,A RIVAL OF THE CUTTY SARK. LONDON, June 7.

The German ship Greif has arrived n( Falmouth from Port L’irie. She encountered a four-day gale and lost two seamen. three boats, much of the bulwarks and all movable articles on the deck. The vessel participated in the wheat ship race from Australia, and occupied 121 days on the voyage. Formerly, as the British ship Wi.scombe Park, the Greif nearly heat the Cutty Sark racing to Australia. [Although she may hav<* once nearly beaten the famous old fast clipper Cutty Sark on the Australian wool trade run, the Wiscombe’s Park’s performance did not raise mush enthusiasm, as the Cutty Sark’s fast-sailing days were then on the decline. The famous old dipper established her unbeaten record for sail between 1874 and 1880, when she made some .very fast trips between England and Australia, averaging 77 days from port to port for the period.. Four of these trips occupied 72 days, 73 days, 72 days and lb days. The Wiscomhe Park was not built .until 1892. and therefore missed the exciting days when to have “nearly beaten the Cutty Sark” would have'been an achievement indeed.] TELEGRAPHIC SHIPPING r Napiyr: Arrived at 7.45 n.m. yesterday, Kahika, from Gisborne.
