BROADCASTING OF MATCHES
SYDNEY, June 2,
The broadcasting of wrestling matches has caused some discussion in Melbourne.
One prominent clergyman lias objected strongly to the description of the contests being sent by radio into homes in the city and throughout the State. And there have been criticisms from listeners-in, especially in the city, in regard to too .much wrestling being included in the radio, .programmes. But., notwithstanding those, it,is an undoubted fact that, the broadcasting of stadium struggles is highly, popular. t. It is surprising how nngiy people who, in .ordinary circumstances, would take no interest in stadium events enjoy listoning-in. The vividness of the description is an important factor. One gets the actual atmosphere of the crowded building, and lie can visualise the tussles as they are in progress. There was a fear at the beginning that broadcasting the events would affect the stadium attendances. But 'Dhe fear has not beon justified. Instead, the stadium is now thronged more .densely than ever' it has been, and the other day the Health Commission discussed.*the question of preventing overcrowding. A year ago wrestling was an almost unknown sport, in Melbourne. Now, -the majority of listeners-iu can speak familiarly on every hold.
