TERRIFIC SPEEDS
MOTOR CYCLE SPORTS
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, June 18. Terrific speeds characterised the Isle of man Tourist Trophy races, demonstrating the remarkable advance in motor cycle engines. Oyer 100,000 people were thrilled by the magnificent riding of the Irishman, Alec Bennett, who smashed all records and averaged 7osec. for 204 miles. His cornering was so accurate that the machine .never faltered. Stanley Woods, last year’s winnfir, beat the record for ,the course circuit in the second lap, and beat it again at the seventy-first lap. The competitors could not cope with Woods' terrific riding. He passed a score of riders in three laps as, lie dashed down the mountain, but at the hundredth lap •lie stopped owing to clutch trouble.
BRITISH MACHINES’ SUCCESS

Inaugurating a super speed track at N uorburgring, the British machines, Velocotte, Sunbeam and Excelsior were first, second and third in the opening race for machines not exceeding 350 centimetres.
