Mr. J, T. Morrison, supervisor at the Wniroal'ost Office, is under transfer on promotion to the Gisborno office. Lieutenant-Colonel B. F. Gambrill. who has relinquished the command of the Ist Battalion of the Hauraki Regiment, has been transferred to the Ilawke's Bay Regiment. In New Plymouth at the time of the visit of the Canadian soccer team. Mr. W. Adams, president for Taranaki, was made an honorary member of the team in recognition of his good work for the game. Mr. P. R. Smyrk, of Napier, has been appointed secretary of the Waipawa Hospital Board out of 184 applicants. His appointment is conditional, however, on formal confirmation by the Health Department. Mr. Smyrk has been assistant secretary to the ,Hawke s Buy Hospital Board for many years. " Mr. F.'F. Chivers returned to New Zealand by the Maungauui with his infant'son,'after some years' service m the Solomon islands Methodist Mission. Mrs. Chivers succumbed to a sudden attack of blackwater fever just prior to the date fixed for the family's departure from the islands. An ex-New Zealander, Dr. Aubrey Humphries, of Sacramento, has been offered and declined an executive position at North Pacitie Dental College. Oregon. United States. Dr. Humphries was born in Napier and received his dental training there and in Philadelphia. Portland and the Royal Dental Hospital, London. He holds several State board and other diplomas, including the degrees of doctor of dental surgery and doctor of dental medicine. Mr. H. Baillie, the city librarian, Wellington,- has received' an invitation to attend the Jubilee Conference of the British Library Association, to be held lin Edinburgh." Overseas delegates to : the conference are to be guests of the 1 Carnegie trustees to a pro-conference trip tour through Britain. He also received an invitation to attend the Jubilee Conference Of the American Library Association, with a post-conference tour. He cannot, however, accept either .i&Titation.
