(Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON,, last night
An inquest was hold today concerning the death of John Charles Scott. 5-1, married, a dentist, who sustained fatal injuries on the evening of May 3, being knocked oil’ his bicycle by a motor car on I lie Huff road, near Lower llutf railway station.
Evidence showed that both deceased and the car, driven by A. D. Wylie, were on the edge of the bitumen on l.lieiv right side of the road. Wylie said lie was travelling at 25 to 30 miles an hour and could not see the cyclist for the bright lights of a vehicle approaching from the other direction.
Counsel for Wylie said cyclists were not. supposed to ride on the bitumen if tlie macadam track was in good order, and iii this case it had been. ,
In returning a verdict of accidental death, the magistrate said that if the police wanted to go further in the matter they were at liberty to do so. There was no definite evidence as to speed, however, and in the circumstances it would be unfair for him to make any comment.
