The staff of Mossvs Williams and Kettle yesterday assisted to make the contrast, between the old-time modes of transport and the new more effective by their loading of the horse and bullock waggons, a fairly heavy morning’s work. 'Phe congest ion of vehicles in the vicinity of tile Post Office prior to the starting of the Jubilee procession yesterday gave the olHemls a. busy hnif-hour Indore order could he obtained, and in this connection the efforts of) Messrs (!. Nieholl, A. Allen, J. Collelf, and (A Hillyard proved of great value. The functions at the Garrison Hall and the City Halt were not capable of absorbing the large crowds who thronged the streets of Gisborne last night, and the picture theatres were packed to the legal limits long before the programmes commenced. Those unable to gain admittance to the public entertainments amused themselves with the survey of Dio line photographic displays made in many of tlie shop windows, and in listening to the programmes of old-time selections played by the Salvation Armv and City Bands, which paraded at- different parts of Gladstone road. There was general regret when the programmes concluded, and the crowds took a long time to thin oat.
