MOTES AND NEWS
GISBOBNE BOY AT IYA STATIC STILL TROUBLESOME Listeners in Gisborne, and throughout the Dominion, apparently, are experiencing trouble in mi unusually marked degree with atmospheric disturbances at present, and l'pr the pa"st throe weeks or more reception Ims been marred to such an extent thai many have not troubled to listen-in, and are awaiting an improvement. Reception from the Australian stations lias been poor of late, and on some occasions it has been almost impossible to hear the Commonwealth broadcasters, while reception of the New Zealand stations has been little, if any, better. Fairly heavy static is to be expected at this time of the year, but so far this month it has been more pronounced than usual, and it is to be hoped that the conditions will improve greatly before long. On Friday evening Gisborne listeners were interested to hear pianoforte solos broadcast from IYA by Mr. Leu. Schwabe, a well-known Gisborne musician, who is at present studying at Auckland Training College. Mr. Schwabe gave a finished rendition of two delightful pieces, but unfortunately static was particularly troublesome, although the solos could be heard excellently at intervals during lulls in the disturbance.
