Mt. Marta, Berinilikt- ami Siaosi, who have Ibeea racing in Australia for some months have returned to Auckland.

A batch of the horses purchased for Australia at the Trout-ham sales left for their new homes last week, and another lot left on Monday in charge of E. O’Neill.

Count Cavour j.s reported front ltic-c-arton as in great heart at the present time, and his connections are confident that he will give a good account of himself in thd Dunedin Cup, He galloped well in a> trial on Saturday with Rapier and Footfall.

Although Jlurry On headed last year’s list of winning English sires, with over £59,000 to his credit, lie owed his position to one horse —Coronarch, £39,624. His other principal winners were thd two-vear-ulds Applecross. £4969; Cresta Run, £4880; Call Boy, £4377; and Grand Vitesse, £.1901.

Chickwheat has been doing good work on the Riccnrton tracks, and lie may soon show up in some of his engagements. He was always a great track worker, but rather disappointing in his racifs. However, since the decision to race him over longer journeys has been taken lie may prove that he can reproduce his track form in public. * * *

Jn consequence of her sterling performance in the hurdle race on Saturday, Blue Jay has been elevated in the weights, until she is within Jibs, of Highway and Many Colours. Over a mile and three-quarters, the mare is likely to find the penalty a bit rich. Many Colours should find his smaller increase easier to carry.

With iwo wins to her credit ttl the G.R.C. meeting, Gold Dot might be given a chance in whatever event her owner elects to start the mare in lomorrOw. In the Jubilee Handicap', one mile, she is called on to concede 4lbs to Princess Nata, while in the Harbor Hack, a furlong shorter, a stone arid a half is the least she is to give away. Mr. Shannon rates the mare high, but on her last week’s running Gold Dot cannot be taken cheaply. Mountain Top” is on the same figure in tho opening event. * * * 4

During tho winter First Prince looked, like coming on well, but last week’s efforts did not improve the Prince Willonyx horse’s standing with the public. On the first day he was finishing faster than any other runner in flic Te Hapara Hack race, but was too far away to threaten tho leaders, while on the second day, though showing promise near tho straight entrance, ho came round the corner badly, arid lost touch with the field. First Prince has a good stride, and may yet pay his way, but he has not responded readily to education.

In reply to a question put to F. D. Jones a few doys ago, the Riecarton trainer said that his plans for the autumn have not vet taken definite shape (states the Dominion). Everything depends upon how Limerick progresses in his preparation. So far the Limond gelding has gone on all right. His injured foot, which interfered with his spring prospects in Australia, is mending fast, and Jones is confident that there will be no recurrence of tho trouble. While waiting for the hoof to grow down, however, Jones has had to bo easy on his charge. Limerick has been in work for some time, but bis tasks have bei?n very light. He will now be sent along faster and his trainer is hopeful of having the crack three-year-old at bis best by Easter. Mr. H. A. Knight, the owner of Limerick, is keen on the Sydney trip, being anxious to take on Rampion again in the St. Leger. Provided eveirything goes well with Limerick, it thus seems probable that he will bo at Randwick Autumn meeting. If Limerick makes the trip it is probable that Battletnet will accompany him. Tho Martian three-year-old showed good form at Randwick in the' spring, winning two valuable stakes, so it looks good business to takei him back to race in the autumn on llie same course. In the event of the trip being decided on, .Tone's may' first run Battlement in the New Zealand St. Leger, a race in which Limerick is not engaged, leaving for .Sydney next day. This programme would land the Riecarton three-year-old at Randwick more than three weeks before the opening of the Australian Jockey Club’s meeting.
