ULTRA-ViOLET BAY APPARATUS

An ultra-violet ray apparatus was installed at the Christchurch public hospital last September and so much work has been done with it that it has been found necessary to build a special room for it I i
Dr. P. C. Fenwick, who is in charge o£ the radium department at the hospital, is working with the viofet ray on tubercular diseases of the bones; and . skin diseases are being treated. So far the results have been very" satisfactory. Dr.. Fenwick said to-day that he was in communication- with JVloorfield's eye hospital and reports from there stated that r: good results were being obtained ill ultra-violet ray treatment 'of * 'eye diseases. At present the Christchiireh hospital had only an air cooled apparatus, which was available for general treatment. To do local work it Was
necessary to have a water - cooled machine. Since September, 430*patients had been treated with the apparatus /and ophthalmic surgeons were keenly interested to see what could be done with water cooled violet rays. "We hope soon to have that water cooled apparatus," said Dr. Fenwick.
