Tho last meeting of tho year of the Study and Discussion Society will be held on Thursday evening at the residence of Mrs. H. J. Walker, upper Fox street, when an address on the poet, Bobert Browning, will be given by the president, Mr. F. K. Tucker. The members are invited to attend, and to take part in the discussion which will follow the address. The opening lecture for next year will bo delivered on tho first Thursday in May. Attention is called to tho meetings of the parishioners of tho Church of England which are advertised in this issue. The object is to take initiatory steps for the introduction of the duplex system of finance info the parish of Gisborno. The governing principle of the duplex system, and its life, is that it provides what such a parish should giv<j in aid of foreign missions as well as for its needs at home. There are roughly some 7000 nominal members of the Church in the parish. If one-seventh of these put aside sixpence a week for the Church, a'.l the money required for the support of four churches would bo assured. If the same 1000 people gave lone penny a week for missions, a sum iof about £225 would be collected to meet the diocesan assessment upon the parisii for missions, which is £2OO. Last year the parish contributions from al! sources were £l5O. Perpetual begging for Church finance is as unnecessary as it is wanting in principle.
