MANDATE'S CONTROVERSY. LONDON, November 23. In the House of Commons to-day Mr. W. J. Baker (Lab., Bristol E.) asked the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Sir Austen Chamberlain, whether he would instruct the British representatives to asK the League of Nations Mandates Commission to inquire into the situation in New Guinea, Sir Austen Chamberlain : No ! Mr, Baker: In view of the grave unresf> there, won't you reconsider your decision ? Sir Austen Chamberlain : No! In no circumstances could I think of doing so.
