P.B. CRICKET ASSOCIATION HAWKE OXJP CHALLENGE The Poverty Bay Cricket Association last evening decided to lodge with the New Zealand Council a challenge for the Hawke Cup, now held by the Taranaki Association. A date late in January would suit the Poverty Bay representatives, and the council is to be asked to arrange the match accordingly. The opinion of the Association was that Poverty Bay could put a strong team into the field, and that their chances of bringing back the Hawke Cup would justify the expense of the trip. The meeting had before it a number of questions relating to the competitions now in progress. The positions of the senior teams, following on the results of the latest matches, are: High School, 8 ■ poinis; Celtic, 6; Old Boys, Gisborne | and United 5; Poverty Bay, 3; City and j Harbor Board, 0. Matches have been arranged for I against Bay of Plenty on December 30 land 31, and against the Auckland tourists on January 1 and 3. The selectors have been asked to nominate players for special practice, with a view to the final selections for the matches named. .New members were registered as follows: C. Pankhurst, City Club; H. L. Thodey, C. Franklin and J, A. Gibson, United Club, The junior competition was under discussion, and the- Celtic delegates requested that the first match played should be regarded as unofficial. The meeting was of the opinion that as the competition had been inaugurated it could not disregard (he result in assessing the points due to the respective clubs. The ground commit tee reported that the outfield and approaches at- the Domain wicket required attention, and the necessary authority was given for their improvement. The draw for next Saturday's games is as follows : Senior.—Celtic v. United (No. 2), Gisborne v. School (No. 1), Old Boys v. Toverty Bay (No. 3) and City v. Harbor Board (No. 4). Junior. —Civil Service v. Celtic (Domain), United v. School' A (second round), and School B a, bye (second round).
