KAIAPOI RESIDENT’S DEATH
(Special to the Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The death occurred under tragic circumstances hist evening of Mr. Walter Edwin Burnham, a well known and highly respected resident of Kaiapoi. Mr. Burnham was preparing to have a game of bowls al the Kaiapoi Bowling Club’s green and went into the pavilion to put on his shoes. A few minutes later he wn
found lying dead oil the.'.floor of the pavilion. Mr. Parnhnm had been receiving medical attention for some time.
The Into Mr. Burnham was born in Kaiapoi in 1564 and had resided there practically all his life. He was brought up as a butcher and farmer, and was at one time a member of the firm of Parnhnm Bros., butchers. Howovcr, for tho greater part of his lifo he was engaged in agricultural and pastoral pursuits. Deceased took a keen interest in public affairs and at one time or another had been associated with most of the public bodies in the district. He was one of tehe original directors, of the Kaiapoi .Shipping Co., and was ex-chairman of ihe Waimakariri Harbor Board.
