WAIROA NOTES
(Herald Correspondent.) The railway goods shed at Wailtokopu, thought a great advance on the building which did duty in earlier days at the end of the boulder bank, is now found to lie too small for the increasing trade of the port. Tenders ure being called hv the Public Works Department for work which will practically double the amount of accommodation. It is understood that a line of rails will he laid through one of the sheds.
Last evening Gilligan (st.), Grant, McKinnon ami Mayo met St. Paul (st.), Osier, Martin, and Taylor in the second semi-final for the Svonson trophy. The veteran won the toss and had the pick of the water, which was still very choppy at the best owing to tlu- heavy wind, and the race resulted in an easy win for Gilligan. The Jinal will be rowed this evening, when Gilligan meets Farquhar. A violent westerly gale raged all yesterday, making it uncomfortable at times for pedestrians and cyclists. Some damage was done to the fruit crop.
Entries for the big event of the bowling season are now being taken, the Hunter-Brown Shield being the next feature on the Wairoa green. Despite tho unfavorable weather bn Thursday four matches were played off. Pairs: Lockhart and Dr. Hallwriglit (16), defeated Shepherd and Davys (12). Trios: Whitmore, Saha and Dr. J. Somerville v. Ranum, Wat kov, and A. B. Smith, 20 all; Morris, MoLaehlan and Fletcher (25), heat Osier. Wade and T{. Boyd (10). One full rink match resulted: Fysou. Androsen, McLean and Moore (201 heat Sandilands, Stanton. Pnerai Wilson and Galbraith (12).
