AN EVIL INFLUENCE
PERNICIOUS PICTURE SHOWS (Received November 26, 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 26. Burgess,, who was found guilty of manslaughter as the. result of the. death of Riddell, wa.s sentenced to one year's gaol, the sentence to be suspended under the First Offenders' Act. The Judge remarked that he accepted accused's counsel's contention that Burgess was influenced to some extent by pernicious picture shows at which lawlessness was presented as .something to be admired, and where men who used revolvers and knives were held, up as heroes. 'Die Judge 'said there were circumstances connected with picture shows which were having an evil inflence on the youth of the country.
