FATAL HOTEL FIRE
PEOPLE TRAPPED BY FLAMES
CAPETOWN, Sept. 15. Two lives were lo'st in a lire which broke out in the early hours of this morning at the Hotel Metropole, a fourstoreyed building, in Long street, Capetown, and several people were badly injured. When the fire was discovered the flames had already secured a good hold, and, guests and servants found their escape cut off by (lie blazing staircase. Clad only in nightdresses and pyjamas, they clambered on to the roof or balconies and as the flames advanced several leapt on to adjoining buildings or to the. ground. These met death or seriou ß injury, but those who awaited the arrival of the fire brigade were rescued amid exciting scenes.
