The League football match, in which the New Zealanders defeated WiganHighiield by 14 to 2, was played under most unfavorable conditions, the ground being of the heaviest. Nevertheless, both sides played excellent football. It was wonderful how the New Zealanders took, passes, being much the cleverer side, but they had a trying time in the first half, Highfield constantly attacking. Only New Zealand's fine defence prevented them scoring. The New Zealanders started with the advantage of the slope, showing good judgment and clever passing, their ability often bewildering the Highflelders, while their keen backing up proved a great factor in the victory. Occasionally Highfield got near the line, and with a trifle more judgment would, have been over. The Xew Zealanders played six: out of seven of the forwards engaged' in the recent dispute. All played well, bu>t Dul'ty, as full back, was (he star of the sfide. Desmond and Gardiner were good, the former taking a. lot of stopping. Oshaldestou, for Highfield, played a splendid game. Gardiner secured a try in the first half, and another in the second. Desmond and Carroll added a try apiece, one of which was converted' by Mount. Osbaldeston replied 1 with a penalty goal. The team consisted of Dufty, Sanders. Desmond, Kirwin, Gardiner, Brisbane. Webb, Carroll, Devine, Henry, Peterson, Singe and' Mouat.
