GIRLS' CIRCLE FUNCTION The Girls' circle of tin: Gisborno Women's Club entertained tlui adult members recently. It was!) jolly evening, and augurs well for the. circle." The first pari, of tlfe programme , opened with a prologue, composed and J delivered by Mrs. James Pir'ic, who I too'; the part of " Mother 000.5 e," and introduced tli»> following to the audience: "Boy Blue," Miss Ilium i Holmes; "Queen of Hearts," .Miss Alii ml- Mcl)on:ild; " V'nnkee Dofdle," -Miss I.id tic Trowell: "Alary and her Little Land.," .Miss Mildred Hanger; "Simple Simon," .Miss .Maureen Kenny; ".lark Horner." .Miss Tui Hill: " Little Ton Tucker," .Miss M'o'na Craig; "Jack and .Till," .Misses Hi I a Sexton and. Ell,dine Sidebottom; ".Mary, Mary qui .',' contrary," Miss Raid Hooper. Solos and elocutionary items were given by these characters, also choruses and the game, "Here we go Hound the Mulberry Bush." The round "Three Blind Mice" was also contributed, the girls' voices blending lieautifullv.

During the interval, Mrs. E. X. Sidebottom, president of the Girls' Circle, thanked the audience for their presence, and also Mrs. Phil Larry, who had spent so much time in preparing the girls for their parts. A bouquet was presented to Mrs. Barry by Miss Ellaline Sidebottom.

In the second half of the programme the dresses were all early Victorian, and very dainty and. pretty. .Misses Veronica and Maureen Iveany opened with a pianoforte duet; and responded to a, well-earned encore. Miss Lottie Trowell' contributeed the song "To a Miniature," and as an encore gave "Coo," from "A Country Girl." A request number by Miss Enid Hooper entitled "Packing" caused much amusement, and this was followed by "Jim and the Lion." Miss Rimu Holmes ver-v sweetly sang '' Waiting'' -and ''The Low Hacked Car." Miss Maureen Keany delighted the audience with a musical monologue, "The Lesson with the Fan," and a recitation "Aunt Tabithn." Misses Hooper and Sexton gave the duet in costume "With Courtly Grace," which was much enjoyed. The .last item was a story without words, entitled "A Village Maiden and the Movie Actress/' played by Misses Mildred Ranger and Minnie Meßonald.

Mrs. J. R. Kirk, in n happy speech, thanked the young members for a charming evening's entertainment, and also congratulated'them on their initial effort. She also proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Sidebottom,and .Mrs. Harry for their help. Airs. Barry then thanked 'Mrs. Kirk on behalf of the Girls' Circle for her remarks. Mrs. W. A. Smith called for three cheers for the -Girls' Circle, and the girls replied with three cheers for Mrs. Barry.

Supper, provided by the girls, was handed round. The National Anthem brought an enjoyable evening to a close.

The accompaniments during the eveaing were capably played bv Miss \ eronilfa Keanv.
