POVERTY BAY ASSN. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE • The weekly meeting of the Poverty Bav Cricket' Association was held last evening. Mr. H. E. Maude presiding, there were also present Messrs. Baker, Reed. Chrisp, Cooke, Macdonald, and Gumming. The committee arranging a benefit match for Mr. Harry Ellis reported that satisfactory progress had been made. It wa.s decided that November (i should be set aside as the date for the benefit. The question of inaugurating a Thursday competition was further discussed, it being reported that there was even- prospect of securing sufficient teams to justify the competition. It was decided that" further enquiries should be made before coming to a decision. The Poverty Bay Club was granted the use of one of the wickets for Friday next.
An enquiry as to whether it would be possible for a match to be arranged between Gisborne and Bay of Plenty at Gisborne was received from Mr. L. K. Turner. It was decided that the proposal should be further inquired into by the secretary, and that the Waiapu and Motu sub-associations should be communicated with. It was decided that ihc allocation of practice wickets be left to the discretion of the groundsman, and that match wickets should not. be used for this purpose at any time. It was decided the competition matches be suspended this week on account of the counter attractions.
