TO-DAY'S SHOW

A LARGE GATHERING WARM WEATHER ON GROUNDS People's Lay was observed on the Showgrounds to-day. Fortune favored the second day" of the Poverty Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association with a warm sunny day. In fact, real summer weather prevailed and many were glad to avail themselves of the shady spots throughout the grounds. Visitors were, present from all parts of the district. There was a fair attendance this morning, and the. numbers steadily augmented as the day advanced. Many availed themselves" of the special train services, but the bulk of visitors arrived by motor-car with the result Chat the members' paddock and other portions of the grounds were lined with cars which in themselves presented quite an exhibition. Judging proceeded steadily throughout the day, thd remaining classes of the schedule being disposed of. The various horse classes and competitions attracted general interest, whilst other features comprised the grand parade, dog trial exhibition and motor acceleration display. The. side" shows with their variety of attractions were well patronised throughout the day, strenuous efforts being" made by the respective showmen to claim public attention. Games of skill and fancy stalls all appeared to do good business, Ths trade exhibits again afforded a, source of much atii-nciton, and a constant stream of visitors inspected the many excellent displays. The City Band'was present and from the lawn dispensed music appropriate to the occasion. i ENTRIES ANALYSED. An analysis of this year's entries discloses a total of 1693.' Of this number, horses easily bulked largest in the programme., totalling 415. The balance ot the entries was distributed as follows: Cattle 153, sheep 269, pigs 20. poultry and pigeons 236, dogs 132, produce 126, fleeces 36 and competitions 279. There were no less than 76 classes rn the schedule which produced no v entries, whilst quite a large number yielded only one or two entries. The jumping competitions, were as popular as usual., and produced good fields. An effort, should lie made to augment the display of sheep and cattle, which were actually exceeded by the numbers in the poultry classes.
