CARICATURE OF THE KING
NEW ZEALAND STAMP DESIGN. New Zealand lias just issued two newstamps which bear an extremely bad likeness to King George, says the Loudon Weekly Dispatch. It is slated, in fact, that this is the worst representation of the King that has ever appeared on a. staanp, and there is a growing demand that they should be withdrawn. "We should not be. surprised'.if they arc withdrawn from circulation in a very short time,'' said, a vepresentative of Messrs. Whitfield*, King and! Co., the Ipswich stamp dealers. " These are the first stamps of more than Is in value which have beeii issued since 1898, the old Queen Victoria'stamps continuing in Use, arid now that they have issued a 2s 1 and 3s hearing the ' likeness' of King they have me if this deplorable design ! From a collector's point of View those stamps are likely.to be valuable, as, if thoy arc withdrawn, they will become very scarce.'''
