Christian Union as constituted at the University, matters came to a head at the annual general meeting last week, when it was decided that the Canterbury College Student Christian Union as at present constituted bo dissolved. Meetings of the men and women members were, immediately held separately to consider the formation of new sepntate unions. While the women’s meeting progressel fairly smoothly, that- of the men’s led to a- vigorous discussion. Mr. It. I). Maker moved: “That this groan of .students formally coustitulo iiuunselvos into a Canterbury College Men A Christian Union.” An amendment was moved:* “That this meeting of students constitute themselves into a Canterbury College Heretics Club.’’ The reasons staled in favor of this amendment- were mainly that the students generally were rebellious at such a name as Christian being embodied' in the title of any internal club of the college. Full and open discussion of ail problems that- arise waa advocated. A second amendment followed: “That in ynler to’ combine ideals and activity of thought, the name of the new union he the Canterbury College Christian Heretics Union,’’ ' , 11- was finally decided to appoint a committee, representative of both schools of thought, with power to suggest- a name to the general meeting at an early date.
