MISSING CAPTAIN
BODY FOUND IN HARBOR MYSTERY SOLVED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day./ The mystery of llie disappearance of Captain Williamson of tlit* Marnina, who was j lot seen after leaving llie head office of llie Union Steam Ship Gompany on September 15, was solved to-day wben the body was found in the harbor by the wharf police. 'There was no sign of violence. A ring, a watch, and a small sum of money was in his pockets, but nothing to give any reason for his disappcarnnee. An inquest will be held In-morrow. Captain Williamson was until recently in command of the Union Company's inter-colonial passenger steamer Mamma, which arrived at Auckland last month from Sydney. Immediately on arrival at Auckland, Captain Williamson proceeded by the limited express to Wellington to report at the. head uttiue of the Union Company. On arrival at Wellington Captain Williamson went at once to the company’s head office amt consulted with the management. He left at 10 a.m. with an under,standing that lie was expected to return at noon on that day. Subsequent- investigations resulted in the discovery that Captain Williamson on arrival by the express from Auckland left- bis handbag at the Tliorndon Railway Station in the luggage room. If would appear that fie proceeded direct- from the. train to the Union Company's head office, without looking lor accommodation and on leaving the office vanished. ( aptain Williamson's home was in Auckland. Mrs. Williamson, becoming anxious regarding her husband's whereabouts. went to Wellington to institute inquiries. He lias a son 10 years ol age and a daughter aged 14 years. lie had been a master in the Union Company s service for several years and was wellknown in the Melbourne-New Zealand passenger service. He formerly commanded the Manuka before being given charge of the iVlarama.
