MANGAPAPA SCHOOL

■IMPROVING THE DIMIN'AGE. | ] ASSISTANCE WANTED. In a. letter to the Borough Ccureil lust evening the Education Board asked that the council should bear a si are of the cost of providing the Mangapapa school with a proper drainage system. 1 Writing on the subject the Hawk’es , Bay Education Board said they Lad received the following communication from the Education Department: “It: is noticed that for a considerable length of its course the drain runs along Unnond road and joins the Hospital drain at the corner of Ormond and Valley roads. Although the drain may be considered a private drain it is very probable that in the future applications would be made to the Borough Council by neighboring residents to join up therewith. In any ; event, since Mangapapa is now included in the Borough of Gisborne, it appears to the department only equitable that the Borough Council should find say half of the cost of installation. This has been the usual practice in the case of town schools in other districts. The children of Mangapapa are the children of ratepayers in the Gisborne Borough, and the department hopes that the above, suggestion will, therefore, receive the favorable consideration of the Gisborne Borough Council.” j The Mayor suggested that in a fort- j night’s time they should meet the repre seutatives of the Education Board. The 1 engineer’s estimate for the ■work was £4OO. ! The suggestion was endorsed by the , council. i
