ACCIDENT AT SLIP

STEAMER RUSHES T NTO WATER Theio was a.u existing occurrence at the' tun patent slip when the Union Steam Ship Company's cargo steamer Uorinna, 1319 tons, hulled oil' the cradle into Evans Bay. The mishap was occasioned hv a chain breaking. Fortunately no one was injured and no damage resulted, While- probarations were being made to launch tTfe- Uorinna from the slip, where she had been undergoing- an overhaul, the pin of a shackle connecting a huge chain to the cradle carried away. With a. great- rush the Corrina careered down the slipway into the water, treating the onlookers to a surprising and spectacular launening. The captain was oil the bridge of 1 the Corrina, and the crew were standing at their posts. It i.s doubtful, whether tlic men on hoard enjoyed the rush down down the full length of the slipway. The Union Company's tug Terawhiti was standing by and promptly took the Coriniui, in tow, none the worse for her adventure.
