ORGAN RECITAL

A MUSICAL TREAT Keen enjoyment was afforded a large gathering of music lovers at St. Andrew’s ('l)UTch hist evening, when Dr. T. Jlaigli delivered an organ recital which included the favorite compositions of several masters, and also a group of his own works. The recital was marked by a mishap to a part of the mechanism, which slightly limited’ the range of the organ, hut Dr. llaigli succeeded in masking an instrumental defect that, as he explained later, might occur at- any time. The visitor praised the tone, of the 'St. Andrew’s Church organ, which, v hc said, wa.s a delight to play upon. The selections from Dr. Haigli’s own compositions were especially enjoyable to those present, and the effective contrast between the quiet melodious beauty of the iiist, " Moment- Musical.” and the gaiety and rhythmic movement of the- second, a- scherzo, was generally noted and greatly admired. Handel’s ‘‘Athalia” opened the recital, which included, besides the numbers already mentioned, a canzone in A minor (Gui.lmant), a selection of Boellman's, two items from Brahms and Rheiiibcrger, a fugue in .1) minor (Bach), which was substituted for the programme item as a result of the organ mishap, a vivace in F minor by Widor, and another of Guilvnant’s selections.
