HOLIDAYS FOR CLERGY
AN ARCHDEACON'S SCHEME' SYSTEM OF EXCHANGES . (Special to the Herald.; CHRISTCHURCH, this day. ' "Archdeacon it. Creed -Meredith," of Wonganui, has taken in hand a scheme which, when developed, will probably . prove a great benefit to the clergy oi New Zealand," states the Church. News. ! "Its object is to arrange holiday ex- ! changes. An exchange, js not an ideal] way of spending a holiday, and if the : vestries of our dioceses "put into effect I the resolution of the synod, which uryes ; them to give their clergy a clear hoii- ; day, the scheme might not be su mucli ' needed, but in many cases the only■■ chance a clergyman lias to get a h. iiday is an exchange, because that avoids the : expense of accommodation for the family." For such clergy the archdeacon has set up a bureau. The idea has been warmly approved, and already a number of exchanges have been ana.iged through it, and more than -90 have indicated their intention to use it another year. The main idea is for holiday exchanges into other dioceses, ,oid the bureau has often to work the exchanges in a chain, as, for instance. A roes to U, B to C, C to D, and 1> to A. A list of places open for January next includes the following: Taneatua (Bay of Plenty), Kongotea (near Palmer 1 , ton North), Inglewood (main line Ta-vmiki), Kaikoura and Ahaura (West Coast;, a Dunedin suburb for a bachelor, Waipiro Bay i«w miles north of Gisborne). Hospitality for a fortnight, -vithnut a cuty to help the brethren, to get clear hJidays is offered from Stratford, V.srpanui. Te Kuiti. Mangere (close io Auckland.), Hinds. Okato (Taran.iki), and. in February, Onehunga. The archdeacon says: "Will any '.ho would like them please write to in?, slating if it is necessary to provide a locnmtenens in the writer's own parish, and if ■so the siM) of the party he could accommodate, and the type of place his parish is!" There are requests for'seaside plates near Wellington and Napier. One i .an wants "trout fishing apvwhere. Otters nsk for an Auc'land district. "Am any places available?"
