POSTM4 STER-UENERAL ATTACKED ADVERTISING ON LETTERS. LONDON", August, 28. The decision of the PostmasterGeuernl to accept contracts for certain specified advertising matter on letters is raising a storm-of protest. Tho Manchester Guardian.leads the attack with a scathing criticism of thu scheme. The Guardian characterises tho decision as one of the grossest indignities we hffve suffered at tho hands of the Government in the namo of economy, and adds, "That our correspondence should bo defaced with injunctions to drink more whisky or buy more soap, that the anticipations, grave or gay, that come of pausing; over the unopened letter should bo violated by slogans of commerce, is as repulsive as brawling in church." It is pointed out that the clause in the Bill making this affront possible should never have been allowed to slip through, and it is urged that the earliest possibly opportunity should bo taken to repeal it,
