Firemen were battling to-day with a hujie conflagration caused by the explosion of seven great tanks containing half million gallons of petrol, kerosene and benzol .on the grounds ot' the American Oilsbompany. Somij (Din hundred thousand people watched the spectacle of the flames shooting up to a Height. of uiic hundred feet into tin' ah', creating a pall of dense smoke'. Seven people were injured as the result of the intensity of the; hat. Firemen threw up a'curtain of water to prevent, a further spread of the' flames. as they were unable to penetrate Ihe lire area.
